IBIS HAKKA MAORI

Ka mate, ka mate! Ka ora, ka ora!

Although the name of the HAKKA model has a slightly different meaning and its origins are far from Maori culture, it is impossible not to think of New Zealand when hearing it. And it is precisely Maori ornaments and patterns that have become the theme of this Ibis.

Inspired by the Ta Moko tattoo pattern, where each line has its own hidden spiritual meaning.

Unaunahi represents fish scales in the Araw tradition. This motif symbolizes spiritual protection and the connection between worlds. It is often used to honor the deceased—similar to a bird sitting on the shoulder, watching over the spirit and guiding it to where it needs to go when its time comes.

The Taratarekae pattern is inspired by whale teeth and consists of two parallel lines with small triangles pointing inward. The pattern represents both strength and sensitivity—the balance between power and gentleness that is important in Maori tradition.
